One of the most important things about O'Keeffe is her attention. She gives complete attention to all details. In her house one is surrounded by thoughtful beauty.

She [O'Keeffe] says her success isn't due to talent so much as nerve and hard, hard work plus a sort of simplifying, deciding, limiting, giving up some things in favor of painting.

When she works, she works for a whole day at a time. She walks, does rolfing exercises, stays informed, and creates and eats carefully.

How could I ever possibly leave my work with Miss O'Keeffe? She seems to teach me a new secret when I'm not even aware of what's going on until much later.

morning

bright sunlight

ceiling fans turned on to bring the fresh morning air inside

eggs and toast for breakfast, two cups of coffee

filled the bird feeder

folded clothes from dryer

husband washed the car

read about biodynamic farming

early afternoon

long, slow walk around a public garden

visited the fruit and vegetable section

fruit and vegetables were as lovely to look at as the flowers

a desire to eat more healthy and organic

saw a tiny dragonfly that was silvery and whose wings were almost invisible

grasshoppers, many bees, butterflies, and a small, lovely orange-colored moth

skimmed through a book about bugs in the garden's bookstore

late afternoon

drank a cold, cold beer from a short glass (no fancy beer glass for me)

an easy Sunday dinner of leftovers from the refrigerator to the pot

listened to news about the ~~hurricane~~ tropical storm

dried the dinner dishes and put them away after my husband washed them--kitchen nice and tidy

downloaded photos from today onto the computer

listening to Sunday evening

children playing outside before dark, cars traveling down the street at the end of the block, the hum of the computer fan, a jazz band playing at the concert in the park, cicadas adding to the music

left the church service before the recessional
visited a new grocery market
bought watermelon, eggs, pizza, and brownies
watched a movie about tea on my computer while husband watch sports on TV
